Villa Borghese
Until 23 Sep: Silvano Toti Globe Theatre www
Gigi Proietti created the Globe Theatre four years ago during the centenary celebrations of the Villa Borghese park (the theatre is located in). Under Proietti’s art direction thsi summertime venue has gone from strength to strength. This year’s performances, as always, see Shakespeare as the undisputed protagonist. The circular structure of this theatre, modelled on the original Globe theatre in London and made entirely out of wood, is the perfect location to re-enact this masterful British playwright’s work. h21

Until 5 Aug: Passaggi segreti (Secret passages)
A theatre performance that does without one of the main pillars of drama: namely, the stage! During "Passaggi segreti" it’s the audience who move around and walk between two iconic Roman monuments, the Forum of Caesar and the Forum of Augustus, in order to follow the action. Without wanting to give too much away, the tale in question is the terrible drama of Caesar as portrayed by Shakespeare, a man trapped by power and freedom and finally vanquished by a lethal, and in the final analysis, necessary move by Brutus. Passaggi Segreti was conceived by Roberto Marafante, who is also its director. The cast is very respectable and includes Riccardo Polizzy Carbonelli (as Caesar), Gabriele Parrillo (as Brutus), David Gallarello (as Cassius) and Massimiliano Benvenuto (as Anthony). The entrance is via the Forum of Caesar (Clivo Argentario), the exit via the Forum of Augustus (Piazza del Grillo). 3, 4, 5 Aug h21,15 www
