The Palalottomatica venue in Rome will light up with the fervour of great basketball, one of the most popular sports on the Italian peninsula. The Italian teams, and in particular Rome's Virtus Roma team, will be contending for the Top Division Tim Trophy. From 2 to 4 Nov: Apassionata. Four Seasons Tour
47 horses, 85 actors, 80 tonnes of sand, 55 x 9m of stage curtains (enough to envelop the Brandenburg Gate), 50,000 kilometres of travel on tour so far: these are just some of the statistics that make up Europe's most successful equestrian event, "Apassionata". Andalusians, Lusitanos, Arabians, Friesians, Quarterhorse and Carthusian horses, Shetland ponies and donkeys astonish and dazzle in this unique show that celebrates the four seasons. Also taking part are Icelandic singer Arndis Halla - the official singing voice of the event - and Manolo Oliva, a master in the art of equestrianism. Some of the other exceptional equestrian stars taking part are François Jacquelin, the "Hasta Luego" family from France, well-known stunt and show rider Laurent Jahan, Luis Valenca (a member of the famous Portuguese Court Riding School) and Petra Geschonneck.
