8 and 9 Jun: Roma Seven (Rome Sevens)
The best teams from the five continents of the world - among which Stellenbosch, the current champions from South Africa, the All Blacks from New Zealand, the Clandestinos from Argentina and the Garryowen team from Ireland - will compete against our national Rugby 7 team, who won the 2004 title, and the famous Seven Kings. The event opens with a "Welcome party" on the Friday and is followed by the eliminatory rounds. On Saturday there will be matches all day and then the awarding of the Rome Seven Cup and the Seven Kings Plate. Finally, the Roma Seven party will bring together the cream of Rome's jet set and the media. www

Water aficionados should head to RomAquatica where they can watch some of the most captivating swimming, diving and synchronised water events. An incredible schedule includes "XXV Roma Sincro - the Europe Cup", a qualifying event for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, and the "XLV Settecolli Trophy" with the participation of sporting personalities Filippo Magnini, Massimiliano Rosolino and Federica Pellegrini. The event will close with the "XIII Grand Prix Fina" diving tournament.

From 22 to 24 Jun: 100 Vele
The first 100 Sails event was held back in 1995 and combined a passion for sailing and the sea with charitable concerns. Past participants include an eclectic mix such as the Trio Medusa, Giovanni Soldini, Massimo D'Alema and Maria Grazia Cucinotta... The sports competition is divided into two main sections - the regatta on floats on Saturday 23rd and the coastal 12-mile competition on the 24th - and begins with the inauguration of two "100 Sails" villages (one in Castel Sant'Angelo in the centre of Rome and one in the coastal town of Ostia) where visitors can get to know more about the world of sailboats and water sports. A welcome cocktail, live music, award ceremonies and other events will also take place. "100 Vele" (100 Sails) is all about water-related fun. www
