The music of this three-act opera was composed by Jules Massenet and the libretto was written by Edouard Blau, Paul Milliet and Georges Hartmann. The Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro dell'Opera are putting on this opera in the original language with Italian sub-titles. Conductor and director: Alain Lombard. Scenery and costumes by Pasquale Grossi. Alberto Fassini directs a full cast of singers, among whom Giuseppe Filianoti and Park Sung Kyu alternating in the role of the hero Werther, and Beatrice Uria Monzon, Renata Lamanda and Yvette Bonner taking turns to sing the part of Charlotte. This suite has been written to accompany verses by Michelangelo Buonarroti and performed by a baritone accompanied by the piano. The words are by Cosimo Manicone with excerpts taken from the works of Elliot, Freud, Luzi, Mann, Montale, Testori and a passage from Sanguineti. The choreographies are by Gillian Whittingham. "Perséphone" opens this soiree. Created by André Gide it boasts music written by Igor Stravinsky and the participation of two exceptional artists, Carla Fracci and Pamela Villoresi. "Le Sacre du Printemps" (The Consecration of Spring) follows and features many prestigious names such as Vaslav Nijinsky, Millicent Hodson, Nicholas Roerich and Kenneth Archer. Nureyev represents the incarnation of dance and has left an indelible mark on ballet in this century. Unquestionably the greatest male ballet dancer, his talent has never so far been equalled. The Teatro Sistina is hosting an evening devoted to Nureyev and his genius in the course of which we shall be able to enjoy performances by exceptional dancers such as Maximiliano Guerra, Alen Bottaini, first dancer of the Bayerische Staatsballet, and Guy Albouy and Marina Antonova of the Kiev Ballet. The show is introduced by Luigi Pignotti, Nureyev's manager for many years, and continues with a series of excerpts from the Russian dancer's repertoire, including The Corsair, Diana and Atteone, Don Quixote, Swan Lake, Giselle and Nutcracker.
