Friedrich Karl de la Motte Fouqué’s “Undine”, Hans Christian Andersen’s “Little Mermaid” and the legend of Melusine are the inspiration for this operatic fable in three acts performed by the Orchestra, Choir and Corps de Ballet of the Teatro dell'Opera and staged by the Czech Republic’s Dvorak Theatre. Brought to the stage for the first time in 1901 in Prague, this rendition of “Rusalka" brings together a cast that includes Angeles Blancas Gulin, Kostyantyn Andreyev and Francesca Franci. From 12 to 20 Feb: Le avventure di Pinocchio (Pinocchio's adventures)
Paola Jorio directs the pupils of the Teatro dell'Opera's Ballet School in this one-act ballet. The choreography is by Fabrizio Monteverde, the costumes are original pieces from the Mario Pompei historic archive selected and styled by Monica Ricci. The language of dance has been used here to tell the story of the iconic Pinocchio, a character that exemplifies childlike curiosity and a thirst to explore.
From 26 Feb to 4 Mar: Cleopatra - il potere dell'amore (Cleopatra - the power of love)
A theatre-cum-dance performance freely based on Shakespeare's Anthony and Cleopatra but with a completely different ending in which the two protagonists live happily ever after. Director Patrizia Cerroni also created the choreography for this pièce dedicated to Cleopatra, a symbol and metaphor of women saved because she was a beacon of love. This artistic gives one of the most important literary creations a place on stage and sets it to rock and blues music and Gregorian chants.
