Carmen's music is by Georges Bizet, and the libretto, inspired by Prosper Mérimée's tale, is by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy. Concert master and orchestra conductor: Alain Lombard. Set design, costumes and direction: Pier'Alli. The cast is large but particularly worthy of mention are the two grandes dames that play Carmen: Rinat Shahan and Mary Ann McCormick. A romantic ballet in two acts by A. Nourrit, with music by Herman Severin von Loevenskjold transcribed for small orchestra by Francesco Sodini. Here are just some of the names behind this performance: Francesco Sodini (orchestra conductor); August Bournonville (choreography); Michele Della Cioppa (stage design) and Shizuko Omachi (costumes). Alternating in the role of la Sylphide are Laura Comi and Larisa Lezhinina, while Riccardo Di Cosmo and Mario Marozzi play the part of James.
