Vincenzo Mollica and Patrizia Zanotti are the curators behind this fantastic exhibition dedicated to Corto Maltese, a central and important figure among all fantasy figures and also among those born out of Hugo Pratt's hands. Drawings, watercolours, words and previously unseen materials (in all 170 pieces) tell of the creation of this cartoon by Pratt. It was an intimate conception that translated what is born out of the language of words into images. h10-19. €6, reduced €4

Bramante's Cloister beside the Church of Santa Maria della Pace celebrates ten years of activity with an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the great Andy Warhol that is centred on spirituality. This exhibition, which explores the historic phrase Jesus said to Mary Magdalene, allows us to enter into the complexity and profundity of Warhol's thought. Warhol does not limit himself to the question of believing and not believing, he personalises the issue, starting with the most difficult questions that it raises.

From 13 Oct to 7 Jan 2007: Paul Klee. La collezione Berggruen
Prolific German artist Paul Klee, who lived in the 19th and 20th centuries, started to paint after a trip to Tunisia. He developed a highly original and personal style based on abstract signs and symbolism. Later on his art centred and specialised on the realisation of small drawings and water-colours until the last period of his life, in which he was ill and vulnerable, when Klee's work became filled with dreamlike and imaginary representations. h10-19,30; fri-sat h10-20,30. €9, reduced €7

The Banca Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna group has been hard at work on a special project; purchasing artistic works that date from the same period in which the banking group was founded. This project has now become a reality in the form of the "Officina emiliana", which evokes the title of the historic "Officina ferrarese" text by Roberto Longhi. The Musei Capitolini has the privilege of showing this series of paintings of the Emila-Romagna school that date from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Tue-sun h9-20. €8, reduced €6

These two geniuses of 20th century painting though profoundly different in painting styles were united by an important and complex correspondence and were constantly listening to, and debating with, one another. Pierre Bonnard and Henri Matisse's works await us at the Vittoriano complex where over 200 drawings, watercolours, documents, letters, postcards, oils, sculptures and gouaches have been assembled. These two great artists and art lovers were inspired by the same themes - nature, landscapes and people - but they explored them in entirely different ways. Until 18 Feb 2007: L'Iliade a Roma
"Sing, goddess, the anger of Peleus' son Achilleus and its devastation, which put pains thousandfold upon the Achaians [...]." Thus begins one of the most famous poems in the world. This exhibition's intent is to be as faithful as possible to the original poem. Its first section is in fact made up of the work's so-called prodromes (premonitions), such as the Judgement of Paris. A beautiful gallery has been filled with gods and heroes, and another section dedicated to Greek and Trojan heroes. Finally the last section is dedicated to the strongest and most intense sequences of the poem; those that speak of love and war. The Iliad is a masterpiece that should be revisited often. The fascinating history of the great Chinese empire is explored in this exhibition that includes 400 objects: jade and bronze items, sculptures, statues, vases and funeral dowry. The material allows visitors to look back at ten centuries of history of the Chinese empire during a period spanning from 221 BC to the 20th century. Also on show are some striking full-size terracotta warriors that were found in Lintong near the mausoleum dedicated to the First Emperor.

An exhibition that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the twinning between Rome and Paris by looking at the personality of the great explorer Pietro Savorgnan di Brazzà. His message of peace and his extraordinary actions are still remembered in Congo's capital city, Brazzaville, and are the heart and soul of this exhibition that centres on the issue of cultural exchange and contribution. h11-20. Until 8 Oct: Tesori di carta. L'archivio del Museo Centrale del Risorgimento a 100 anni dalla fondazione (Paper treasures from the Archives of the Museo del Risorgimento on its 100th Anniversary)
The Museo del Risorgimento is celebrating its one hundredth anniversary and has decided to highlight this momentous occasion with an exhibit displaying a series of original documents from the second half of the eighteenth century to the first half of the twentieth century. Amongst the many works on show, there is a sonnet autographed by Belli, a memo written by Napoleon while in exile, Volta's notes on the battery and a code to decipher messages by members of the Carbonari movement. h9,30-17,30. Elisa Montessori is an experimental designer and painter always embarking on new roads, moving between incision, egg tempera, mosaic and jewellery. Minimalism, as well as an obvious love for Eastern cultures, emerges from the artist's work, which transmits messages riddled with esoteric and spiritual messages. A hundred years on from the death of the great Norwegian playwright an exceptional exhibition shows his original manuscripts alongside sculptures by Norwegian artist Nina Sundbye. She offers us her interpretation of the figures that populate Ibsen's works. Videos and film footage give even more insight into the life and work of one of the geniuses of international theatre. Sensi Sotto Sopra ("upside-down senses") exhibition at Teatro Palladium belongs to Romaeuropa Festival 2006 section Art and technology. Among thirteen hi-tech installations by international multimedia artists who rarely show in Italy, a huge suspended dome having a diameter of 10 metres for a multisensorial "immersion" with the visual and hearing impulses produced by the German - Austrian multimedia artist Ulf Langheinrich. Organised as a visual journey thought the most important places in the city of Rome as they were during the papacies of Urban VIII of the Barberinis (1623-44), Innocent X of the Pamphilis (1644-55) and Alexander VII of the Chigis (1655-66), and through the works of Bernini, Borromini and Pietro da Cortona. In a century marked by political crisis and the marginalisation of the papacy, the Baroque era afforded Rome artistic supremacy in terms of the exceptional revolutionary force of its language: the innovations proposed by Bernini and Borromini were propagated not only in Europe but also in Latin America. From 20 to 29 Oct: Collezionismo internazionale (International antique and art collectors)
The most famous national and international antiques and art dealers have brought together all the works of art they purchased abroad and transferred to Italy. Collectors and amateurs alike will be able to see Flemish paintings, antique silver items, French paintings and tapestries, ancient sculptures and furniture items from the 1500s to the 1900s. The result is a very varied and captivating show that will seduce even just simple passers-by. h11-20

The eye of the century" was the name given to Cartier-Bresson, a photographer who captured the atmosphere and soul of an era in his work. The subjects of his photos were famous personalities such as Christian Dior and Pablo Neruda, but also simple passers-by and children, views and landscapes. All these elements make up this two-part exhibition, which is accompanied by books, documents and magazines. Until 29 Oct: Musei nel XXI secolo: idee, progetti, edifici (Museums in the 21st century: ideas, projects, buildings)
A series of documents (models, sketches, photographs and multi-media materials) tell the story of almost thirty museum projects that have either already been finished, or are in the process of being completed (and will be so before 2010). The exhibition provokes reflection on the various different types of museum. It doesn't confine its assessments to aesthetic merits, but also to the project's functional qualities and ability to host visitors. One room is dedicated to European music projects, the other to projects outside the continent.

Until 19 Nov: Il libro come tema, il libro come opera (The book as theme)
An exhibition entirely dedicated to books in which the book is looked at from two angles. The first section looks specifically at the art and literature of the 1800s and 1900s, exploring in particular themes such as meditation, figurative painting and literary portraits. The second section, on the other hand, looks at the book in first place as a work of art. In this section we can admire texts such as "Jazz" by Matisse or "Zang Tumb Tumb" by Tommaso Marinetti. Riapertura della Grande Aula dei Mercati di Traiano (Trajan's Markets' Great Hall reopens)
The restoration work on the Great Hall of Trajan's Markets started in February 2005. The works have focused on the whole building, but were concentrated primarily on the hemicycle that is the Great Hall. The complex will reopen in its entirety to the public next Spring, but the Great Hall will be open as a one-off on the night of 9th September, on the night Rome celebrates its fourth Notte Bianca.
