Carracci perpetuates the dictates of the Italian Renaissance, creating highly realistic works characterised by a very decisive use of colour. From 10 Mar to 10 Jun: Durer e l'Italia (Durer and Italy)
Albrecht Durer, an artist from Nuremberg, is a concentrate in human form of respect for the rules, of almost maniacal precision and eclecticism. The artist possessed extensive knowledge in several fields, from the stars to mathematics and the horoscope. His art also takes in many fields of reference, and throughout his career he tried his hand, in fact, at drawing, painting, etching and wood-engraving... This exhibition focuses particularly on the link between this artist and Italian artists, which comes about through a dynamic of reciprocal inspiration. The works on show, made available by important museums, include the famous "Adoration of the Magi" and the "Portrait of Albrecht Durer". Sun-thu h10-20; fri-sat h10-22,30. €10, reduced €7 Complesso del Vittoriano, via San Pietro in Carcere. Info 066780664
From 9 Mar to 1 Jul: Chagall delle meraviglie (Chagall in Wonderland)
This extraordinary Russian painter lived through all of last century's major artistic movements - cubism, surrealism and expressionism - and though influenced by aspects of them he always maintained his own poetic language and vision. Chagall's works are immersed in a fairytale-like atmosphere and filled with the typically Russian places and traditions of his background, such as popular festivals, images from fairytale books and depictions of religious rituals. The over 180 canvases on display speak volumes about the inner life and travels of an artist who used memory not only to remember, but also to invent... Colosseo, piazza del Colosseo. Info 060606
From 3 Mar to 16 Sep: Eros
This major exhibition looks at one of the most important divinities in Greek mythology. Even though shrouded in fog and lacking a rich narrative Eros is the force that sweeps and overwhelms us, as Sappho would say, and to whom even the Gods succumb. This is about sex experienced freely, quite simply it is the energy that gives value and meaning to pederast relations and weddings, which constitute real institutions and fundamental social dynamics, as well as the necessary elements for the balanced development and cultural training of every individual. Eros is everywhere, permeating every aspect of existence. Let's get to know him better. A team of artisans has faithfully reproduced over fifty car models out of wood, metal and fabric using drawings contained in Leonardo's Atlantic, Hammer, Trivulzianus, Arundel and Madrid codexes. An attractive feature of this exhibition is that the cars have been made to scale or even in life size and can be activated by the public. Alongside each car you can see Leonardo's original drawings and read explanatory texts in Italian and English. h9,30-20,30. €6 Istituto Giapponese di Cultura, via A. Gramsci, 74. Info 063224754
Until 20 Apr: PRIMI CONTATTI tra Italia e Giappone (THE EARLIEST CONTACTS between Italy and Japan)
A handful of shipwrecked Portuguese and Italians landed on Japan's island of Tanegashima in 1543. It was the first of many contacts - which then became intentional and systematic, and were for the most part undertaken by missionaries - between Europe and Japan. This exhibition puts on display items of that artistic production which clearly illustrates Italian-Japanese contacts: paintings created by converted Japanese artists, letters from Jesuits, panels, armour and a variety of objects. Casa di Goethe, via del Corso, 18. Info 0632650412
Until 22 Apr: Franz Ludwig Catel (1778-1856). Paesaggista e pittore di genere (Franz Ludwig Catel (1778-1856). Landscape artist and genre painter)
This artist was born in Berlin but lived and worked in Rome and chose the Eternal City as the subject of many of his works. The Casa di Goethe is showing a series of his paintings, watercolours, drawings and oil studies, many of which have never seen by the public before and many of which were created in the open air. Catel's paintings of Rome and Naples and his scenes of daily life were much admired at the time they were made and are bound to be very popular in this show too. Tue-sun h10-18. €4, reduced €3 Biblioteca Angelica - Galleria Angelica, piazza S. Agostino, 8. Info 066840801

Mon-fri h10-13 and h15,30-18,30; sat h10-13 Museo Nazionale di Castel Sant'Angelo, Lungotevere di Castello, 50. Info 0632869
Until 29 Apr: Nino Gianmarco. Labirinti dell'anima (Nino Gianmarco. Labyrinths of the soul)
Gianmarco's work is about exploring the labyrinths we have inside; something we all must do if we are to know ourselves and find stability. The artist speaks to us in images, through strong and decisive colours and a language that cannot be translated literally but that is strong and clear if we approach it openly. About 150 works - oils on canvas, sculptures and mixed techniques on paper - are on display. As well as citing Renaissance and Surrealist artists, Picasso and Goya, Gianmarco offers us a very personal and autonomous artistic vision. Tue-sun h10-18,30. €5 GNAM Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, viale delle Belle Arti, 131. Info 06322981
Until 29 Apr: Renato Mambor - Separè. Oggetti scultorei (Renato Mambor - Separè. Sculptural objects)
Having inspired himself with the cultural ferment of Rome in the 1960s, Mambor impresses us with a highly original installation: the human figure - a central subject in the artist's works - is viewed in relation to materials, colours and techniques. In Mambor's world, shapes and materials are means of producing signs, and signs are given value according to the spectator's perception. Art is totally at the service of its users, becoming a means of knowing and observing. €9 MACRO, via Reggio Emilia, 54. Info 06671070400
Until 30 Apr: Pedro Cabrita Reis. Every moment, one moment after the other
Pedro Cabrita Reis' massive and exclusive installation contains a universe of glass and steel beams in which the notion of space is continually questioned and transformed according to the configurations created by the materials assembled. The Portuguese artist is a master at irrational and chaotic composition and conveys social context in heightened and contemporary fashion.

GNAM Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, viale delle Belle Arti, 131. Info 06322981
Until 13 May: Arturo Martini
"You can think through clay. It's a fact of love throughout our world". So said Arturo Martini, a revolutionary artist who lived between the 18th and 19th centuries and was an avid consumer of art and culture. This great innovator reinvented the canons of plastic construction and gleaned his inspiration from classic art to then develop a very personal form of expression. This show at Rome's museum of modern art (the GNAM) brings together a refined selection of about a hundred of his masterpieces. €9
