One of the famous architects' most original works, a work that highlights all the prodromi and instincts of the Baroque, has been brought back to its ancient splendour in a restoration project lasting four months. During its long restoration the sculpture remained exceptionally on show to the public so that it could follow the careful process step by step. Bernini's bust of Medusa looks brighter than ever and continues to make us marvel.

Bramante's Cloister beside the Church of Santa Maria della Pace celebrates ten years of activity with an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the great Andy Warhol that is centred on spirituality. This exhibition, which explores the historic phrase Jesus said to Mary Magdalene, allows us to enter into the complexity and profundity of Warhol's thought. Prolific German artist Paul Klee, who lived in the 19th and 20th centuries, started to paint after a trip to Tunisia. He developed a highly original and personal style based on abstract signs and symbolism. "Sing, goddess, the anger of Peleus' son Achilleus and its devastation, which put pains thousandfold upon the Achaians [...]." Thus begins one of the most famous poems in the world. This exhibition's intent is to be as faithful as possible to the original poem. Its first section is in fact made up of the work's so-called prodromes (premonitions), such as the Judgement of Paris. A beautiful gallery has been filled with gods and heroes, and another section dedicated to Greek and Trojan heroes. Finally the last section is dedicated to the strongest and most intense sequences of the poem; those that speak of love and war. The Iliad is a masterpiece that should be revisited often. "Petros Eni" is inscribed on a fragment of plaster discovered during the archaeological digs carried out in the Necropolis dell’Urbe. This fragment, and a series of other materials and art-works, are exhibited in a show that commemorates the 500 years of the establishment of St Peter’s Basilica. An absolutely extraordinary exhibition that sees the official pontifical apartments in the Lateran Apostolic Palace transformed for the first time into an arts show venue. There are four sections (Death and funeral of the Pope, the Conclave, the Proclamation, the Ceremony of "Taking Possession of the Church") each containing a variety of objects such as prints, garments, portraits, photos and paintings. The 140 objects and works of art assembled from museums in Rome, Vatican City and the rest of Italy, allow visitors a closer insight into the emblematic figure of the Pope.

Riapertura della Grande Aula dei Mercati di Traiano (Trajan's Markets' Great Hall reopens)
The restoration work on the Great Hall of Trajan's Markets started in February 2005. The works have focused on the whole building, but were concentrated primarily on the hemicycle that is the Great Hall. The complex will reopen in its entirety to the public next Spring, but the Great Hall will be open as a one-off on the night of 9th September, on the night Rome celebrates its fourth Notte Bianca.

After a lengthy but very thorough restoration the famous Barracco collection of sculptures (located in the museum of the same name just off Campo de' Fiori) has reopened. It is now equipped with multimedia tools and several internet stations. The collection is made up of a selection of over 400 Egyptian, Cypriot, Phoenician, Etruscan, Greek and Roman works that show how sculpting techniques evolved among the various populations that have inhabited the Mediterranean basin over the centuries. Barracco himself called sculpture "the mother of all art forms".

Out of all of them, Francesco Cellini's "Urbs et civitas" was recently declared the winner. It won because its concrete execution was considered the most user-friendly. "I am like a small shop; I concentrate more on fragments. I don't know whether this is due to my temperament or due to a lack of means". This is multi-faceted artist Remo Bianco (who died in the 1980s) used to describe himself. The artist has a very strong need for self-expression and is good at a vast array of narrative techniques. His inspiration comes from creations by great artists such as Cézanne, Picasso and Rouault. Pedro Cabrita Reis' massive and exclusive installation contains a universe of glass and steel beams in which the notion of space is continually questioned and transformed according to the configurations created by the materials assembled.
