Bramante's Cloister beside the Church of Santa Maria della Pace celebrates ten years of activity with an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the great Andy Warhol that is centred on spirituality. This exhibition, which explores the historic phrase Jesus said to Mary Magdalene, allows us to enter into the complexity and profundity of Warhol's thought. Warhol does not limit himself to the question of believing and not believing, he personalises the issue, starting with the most difficult questions that it raises.

Prolific German artist Paul Klee, who lived in the 19th and 20th centuries, started to paint after a trip to Tunisia. He developed a highly original and personal style based on abstract signs and symbolism. Later on his art centred and specialised on the realisation of small drawings and water-colours until the last period of his life, in which he was ill and vulnerable, when Klee's work became filled with dreamlike and imaginary representations. h10-19,30; fri-sat h10-20,30. €9, reduced €7

The Banca Popolare dell'Emilia Romagna group has been hard at work on a special project; purchasing artistic works that date from the same period in which the banking group was founded. This project has now become a reality in the form of the "Officina emiliana", which evokes the title of the historic "Officina ferrarese" text by Roberto Longhi. The Musei Capitolini has the privilege of showing this series of paintings of the Emila-Romagna school that date from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Tue-sun h9-20. €8, reduced €6

These two geniuses of 20th century painting though profoundly different in painting styles were united by an important and complex correspondence and were constantly listening to, and debating with, one another. Pierre Bonnard and Henri Matisse's works await us at the Vittoriano complex where over 200 drawings, watercolours, documents, letters, postcards, oils, sculptures and gouaches have been assembled. These two great artists and art lovers were inspired by the same themes - nature, landscapes and people - but they explored them in entirely different ways. An exhibition that celebrates the 500th anniversary of the existence of the Vatican museums and that is dedicated to the marble statue of Laocoon discovered in 1506. The museums have constantly promoted art and culture thanks to a succession of popes who have been committed to safeguarding the country's artistic heritage. The Vatican museums are currently the museum complex that attracts the most visitors nationwide.

"Petros Eni" is inscribed on a fragment of plaster discovered during the archaeological digs carried out in the Necropolis dell'Urbe. This is one of the many pieces that provide evidence of the great diffusion of the cult of St Peter. This fragment, and a series of other materials and art-works, are exhibited in a show that commemorates the 500 years of the establishment of St Peter's Basilica. The most prestigious museums in the world have lent works by Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Raphael, Michelangelo, Titian and El Greco for the occasion. Until 9 Apr 2007: Habemus papam. Le elezioni pontificie da S. Pietro a Benedetto XVI (Habemus papam. The elections of popes in Rome from the Renaissance to the 1900s)
An absolutely extraordinary exhibition that sees the official pontifical apartments in the Lateran Apostolic Palace transformed for the first time into an arts show venue. There are four sections (Death and funeral of the Pope, the Conclave, the Proclamation, the Ceremony of "Taking Possession of the Church") each containing a variety of objects such as prints, garments, portraits, photos and paintings. The 140 objects and works of art assembled from museums in Rome, Vatican City and the rest of Italy, allow visitors a closer insight into the emblematic figure of the Pope.

Until 10 Dec: L'arte rubata: il ritorno (Stolen art: the return)
An exhibition with a difference: each one of the ca. 100 works on display was stolen and then found by the police forces. The works are being shown before being returned to their rightful owners. In a recently restored 18th century palazzo some veritable masterpieces are on display, including Etruscan, ancient Roman and Renaissance pieces. Tiepolo's La Beata Concezione, two works by Guercino, Modigliani's La fillette aux bas rounges and Sironi's Il Lavoro, are particularly worth pointing out. Tue-sun h10-19. Admission free

Until 10 Dec: Mani come bandiere. Umanità e solidarietà (Hands as flags. Humanity and solidarity)
An example of art as research: aesthetic research centred on man as the centre of the world, research into materials that the artist has picked up himself from various beaches and other places around the world. This is how the 45 works exhibited in this personal one-man show dedicated to Nino Mandrici were born. Sculptures in wood, bronze and terracotta and eight paintings are on display in the Vittoriano and allow visitors to witness Mandrici's artistic progress and journey.

The most beautiful gold and silvery jewellery items from Rome and the surrounding area are displayed in five different sections. 'Vetrina dei Desideri' shows jewels in individual display windows; 'Odi le stelle che tremano' is made up of two sections dedicated to earrings; 'Oscar dei Desideri' is dedicated to small sculptures; and finally, 'Preziosa ospitalità' shows exquisite pieces by the most renowned goldsmiths and galleries. A sparkling exhibition.

This exhibition is concerned with the relationship between art and cooperation from 1886 to the present day. This subject may appear to be marginal but the show manages to be illuminating, also with regard to key moments in Italian history. Three sections containing paintings and sculptures are divided chronologically and stimulate further reflection. h9,30-17,30

Until 17 Dec: Gino Bogoni
Sixteen years after his death this retrospective is dedicated to Gino Bogoni, a sculptor and graphic artist from Verona whose art was highly innovative and stimulated by his encounter with European and American artists. An ample array of Bogoni's works, from his first precocious steps into the world of art up until the most recent period, are on display. The life of Bogoni the man was profoundly touched by pain and was the fertile terrain for the birth of his talent, a talent that produces vibrant, female and existential works. h10-13 and h15,30-20. Until 20 Dec: La Roma di Moretti (Moretti's Rome)
The first in a series of photography exhibitions that show Rome as seen by eccentric Italian film director Nanni Moretti. The images capture places that have inspired the director and reflect his take on his home-town. The exhibition takes place in a transparent capsule in Rome's main station, one of the busiest and most interesting locations in the city. Visitors will witness a different and intimate city seen through profound eyes. h11-18. Admission free

Until 21 Dec: Patrizia Bonanzinga - Lavori in corso (Patrizia Bonanzinga - Work-in-progress)
Photographer Bonazinga had the following idea: to use a space of 368x1200 cm, the same size as the sliding door in Rome's modern art museum's central atrium, and put on an exhibition... about other exhibitions hosted at Rome's modern art museum (GNAM). The 200 images on display capture the setting up of an exhibition and demonstrate how they take on life and shape. This can be called a 'horizontal' work of art, a carousel of faces, moments and perceptions. Tue-sun h8,30-19,30

Until 22 Dec: Oliviero Rainaldi
A one-man retrospective dedicated to Rainaldi held in the Mappamondo Hall and Barbo Apartment in Palazzo Venezia. Around sixty works made out of marble, plaster, bronze, wax, as well as paintings and drawings and more recent pieces made out of glass and cement make up the exhibition. The exhibition's curator - Danilo Eccher - asks and raises fundamental questions such as 'what is the meaning of art?' and 'what is the difference between painting and sculpture?'. Tue-sun h10-19. Riapertura della Grande Aula dei Mercati di Traiano (Trajan's Markets' Great Hall reopens)
The restoration work on the Great Hall of Trajan's Markets started in February 2005. The works have focused on the whole building, but were concentrated primarily on the hemicycle that is the Great Hall. The complex will reopen in its entirety to the public next Spring, but the Great Hall will be open as a one-off on the night of 9th September, on the night Rome celebrates its fourth Notte Bianca.

Timed to coincide with the 'World Day of Children's Rights', the Vittoriano complex on Piazza Venezia hosts an exhibition of 500 toys belonging to the city. Visitors will go back in time thanks to these wonderful one-off pieces that range from handmade toys to 19th century industrial output, and from wartime to post-war toys. This display of little trains, miniature airplanes and cars, dolls and dolls'houses, and so on, reflects what it has been like to be a child in various epochs. Two hundred nativity scenes made by Italian and foreign artists and artisans and from museums, private collections, bodies, schools and charitable cultural associations are displayed in the 31st edition of 'A hundred nativity scenes'. This traditional annual event has a very Christmassy feel and offers the possibility to admire nativity scenes of all kinds, from the classical Neapolitan and Sicilian ones of the 17th and 18th centuries to 19th century exemplars in Rome and contemporary takes on the art. h9,30-20. "Il cinema: il migliore dei mondi possibili (Cinema: the best of all worlds)" Marco Delogu curates this exhibition of eighty works by Roman photographer Sandro Becchetti. He captured the great cinematic protagonists of the 60s and 70s in everyday moments far from the lights and flashlights of film sets and cameras. The black-and-white portraits bring out the real people behind the star persona. Here are just some of the people featured in the photos: Bernardo Bertolucci, Federico Fellini, Alfred Hitchcock, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Roman Polanski, Roberto Rossellini, Francois Truffaut, Billy Wilder, Franco Zeffirelli, Dustin Hoffman, Claudia Cardinale, Anita Ekberg and Andy Warhol. h11-19,30

This exhibition examines Enrico Prampolini's central role in the Italian futurist movement. To mark the 50th anniversary of his death a collection of sculptures, costumes, photos, archive documents, models used for the film "Hands", letters and paintings (most never seen by the public before) have been assembled. After being restored carefully for over two years, "The calling of Saints Peter and Andrew", a painting that has finally been definitively attributed to Caravaggio, is being displayed at the Gate Art Gallery in Termini station. This show is curated by Sir Denis Mahon and Mina Gregori and shows all the beauty of this Caravaggio masterpiece. Also on show are other prestigious works by Caravaggio from public and private collections, such as "The tooth-drawer" from the Palazzo Pitti's Palatine Gallery and the Sicilian canvases "The Resurrection of Lazarus" or "The Sacrifice of Isaac". h10-20. €8, reduced €5

Public museums and private collections have provided about 70 works that feature cardinals in history. Photos, paintings and sculptures depict famous cardinals from the Renaissance to the present day. All the works on canvas and paper showing at the MACRO feature a cathedral. For Pizzi Cannella it is a symbol of ecstasy, a metaphorical place that you can reach in your head. The projects and designs of successful Lithuanian-born architect Massimiliano Fuksas are shown in this exhibition. The temporary MAXXI pavilion will be filled with models, drawings, photos and sketches of Fuksas' designs for the yet-to-be-built Congress Centre in Rome's suburb of EUR for example, or the completed Ferrari Research Centre in Maranello. The focal point of the exhibition will be a high-tech capsule in which a video made especially for the occasion talks about the man's architecture and architectural style. Tue-sun h11-19

The web is examined as a creative tool and a medium through which art is born. To facilitate our understanding of artistic languages that start life on the web the exhibition includes seminars, meetings, roundtables and free guided tours. Pedro Cabrita Reis' massive and exclusive installation contains a universe of glass and steel beams in which the notion of space is continually questioned and transformed according to the configurations created by the materials assembled. The Portuguese artist is a master at irrational and chaotic composition and conveys social context in heightened and contemporary fashion.
