From 8 to 30 Sep: Romapoesia. Festival della parola (Romapoesia. Festival of words) www
Romapoesia is an essential appointment for literature lovers and opens this year with a poetry slam, a contest of live poetry performances played out on stage. The event closes with "Il Canzoniere del Lazio – the 1970s revisited", a piece that centres on these years of protest and contestation, bringing to life the ideals and explosive force of the decade, and its search for a newer and purer language. This celebration of the written word allows us to explore the world of poetic creation, from how a piece is born to its performance... Admission free

Until 2 Sep: Isola del Cinema (Island of Cinema)
A traditional part of the Estate Romana (Roman Summer) festival, this event shows great films in one of the city's most atmospheric settings. The audience can choose between two screens: the Arena Mega Screen - located near the Fabricio Bridge - which screens award - winning films and movies of interest that haven't yet been released, is also where directors and actors congregate; then there's Cinelab, a smaller space with the Garibaldi bridge in the background, where independent films, shorts and international movies are shown and discussions and workshops are held.

This initiative brings cinema to places it normally would not reach by setting up makeshift outdoor cinemas for 300 to 400 spectators in various locations in the Rome suburbs.
