From 12 to 20 May: Settimana della Cultura 2007. C'è l'arte per te. Architettura, archeologia, cinema, danza, musica, pittura e scultura (2007 Week of Culture. Art for everyone. Architecture, archaeology, cinema, dance, music, painting and sculpture)
The Week of Culture organised by the Ministry of Culture returns this year and highlights the beauty and wealth of Italy's artistic heritage by opening up the country's state museums and archaeological sites to the public for free for week. This year a number of other events will take place at the same time, such as conferences, exhibitions, workshops, guided tours, concerts, shows and film screenings. Venues that have recently been inaugurated or restored will also be opened to the public. Information on venues and events is available on the official website. www

Basilica di Massenzio, Foro Romano. Clivo di Venere Felice (via dei Fori Imperiali). Info 0682059127; 0668805525
From 18 May to 21 Jun: LETTERATURE. 6° Festival Internazionale di Roma (6th International Literature Festival in Rome)
This annual appointment with the great names in literature returns to the city's atmospheric and ancient Basilica of Maxentius venue. Isabel Allende, Ismael Beah, Rita El-Khayat, Robert McLiam Wilson, Giancarlo De Cataldo, Alicia Gimenez-Bartlett, Scott Turow and Vikram Chandra are just some of the names that will make this edition of the festival - called "Close, far away - crossover" - special. The name is a reflection of our current, nomadic and alienated times that are both close and far away at the same time and the concept has been adopted by the writers as inspiration for pieces that they will perform in their own mother tongue. This year the readings will be accompanied by video-art; images by (mainly foreign) artists will be projected on to screens during the readings. h21. The box office opens at 19.00. Gates open at 20.30. Entrance free until places run out. The free tickets must be obtained from the box office in Via dei Fori Imperiali and are only valid for the night in question. Disabled access

Until 3 Jun: FotoGrafia Festival Internazionale di Roma. Questione Italiana. Indagine sulla fotografia contemporanea (International Photography Festival of Rome. The Italian Question. Exploration of contemporary photography) www
The Rome International Photography Festival is back for the sixth year under the direction of Marco Delogu and offers, as ever, an extraordinary concentration of individual and collective exhibitions by contemporary photographic masters. The 2007 edition aims to explore what is going on in Italy and is divided in three sections: photography as research and reflection in synergy with artistic languages; landscape photography; photo-reportage (an area of photography that is currently being redefined and a subject of great debate). Find out what the Italian photographic landscape looks like.

Teatro Palladium, piazza B. Romano, 8. Info 0657067761
Until 27 May: Supervisioni a teatro. Scienza, arte, spettacolo, Europa (Theatre workshops. Science, art, performance, Europe)
Experimental arts and theatre venue Palladium will host this memorable series of theatre workshops called "Supervision a teatro". An array of performances ranging from theatre, dance, live and classical music performances to science and cinema events, photography exhibitions, video installations and hip hop soirées will take place. Eleonora Danco, Michale Wollny, Stefano Benni, the Montalvo-Hervieu company, the RomaTre Orchestra and Andrea Jemolo, are just some of the protagonists of this remarkable cultural event.
