From 27 Sep to 10 Dec: Romaeuropa Festival 2008 www
The "Romaeuropa" festival is back for the 23rd year. As always it communicates with its large and faithful audience (including a strong youth component) using the language of today and of many countries around the world (Germany, India, Japan, United Kingdom, France, Argentina, United States, Croatia, Israel, Czech Republic, to name but a few)... The festival's DNA is about the promotion of dialogue - a necessary tool in helping bring about peace and cooperation between different civilisations - and finely tuned antennae that pick up on the latest contemporary art trends. On the programme this year there's an event dedicated to 'Sakuntala', Indian Sanskrit Theatre. Rediscovering the past and uncovering the new, the Romaeuropa Festival is once again a not-to-be-missed event for the trend-forward arts generation.

Until 16 Dec: Amare la letteratura (Loving literature)
Writing begins with admiration," says Olivier Rolin, writer and director of the 'Amare la letteratura' festival in Rome. "Every writer feels the presence of respected predecessors within him. This doesn't necessarily mean that he is influenced by them, but that the febrile intelligent state he felt while reading them encouraged him, one day, to throw himself into writing. Asking contemporary authors to choose and comment on texts they love is a bit the same as asking them why, and thanks to whom, they write." The series is held at Villa Medici and sees French writers, artists and intellectuals read the work of great novelists and poets. Admission free
